The OCEP Team

Alhaji Bala
President - Assin Foso (Central Region - Ghana)

I have been active in OCEP since the early founding days of 2004, and hence have had the chance to place many volunteers and frequently visit the various projects. I understand well what volunteers go through when they arrive in a totally new country. I personally lived in Nigeria for several years, and understand that being far away from home has its challenges. Even before my work at OCEP, I have gotten to know volunteers and helped them to get to know the town and feel at home. Many lasting friendships have been the result.

I combine my work for OCEP with my job as a construction engineer. I am also a proud husband and father of my daughter Naida Coby. In my free time, I enjoy travelling, listening to music and playing football.

Sam Kwaku Jewett
Staff Member - Accra (Ghana)

My name is Sam Kwaku Jewett. I was born on 10th August 1980 and speak English and three Ghanaian languages: Twi, Ga and Ewe. I hold a diploma in Marketing and Public Relations. When you arrive in Ghana, there is a good chance that I will be the one picking you up on the airport. And I also may be showing you around Ghana's capital Accra during your first days after arriving in Ghana.

I am comfortable discussing politics, books and relationships. Furthermore I love to read and listen to music. Country is my favourite music style. I also enjoy cooking and wonder about why some people still go hungry. Though I make friends easily, I also enjoy spending time on my own every now and then.

Guus Goorts
Advisor - Singapore

My name is Guus. A founding member of OCEP Netherlands Foundation which supported OCEP Ghana from 2004-2010, I am still regularly called on for advice. Especially regarding websites matters as well as organisation. Having been a volunteer in Ghana in 1999, I can wholeheartedly recommend a volunteer assignment in Ghana: it will change your entire outlook on life.

A born and bred Dutch, I hold a degree in International Business from Maastricht University. I live in Singapore since 2006 and have worked as an Intercultural training specialist before starting my own company Yago, which brings together the course offerings of several Singapore language schools on one website.

I am passionate about culture and languages, of which I speak several: Dutch, English, German, Mandarin and some Spanish and French. I have also studied Latin and Ancient Greek. Besides an entrepreneur and culture enthusiast, I am also a husband and father to my son Pieter, who was born in 2010.
