About us

OCEP stands for Organisation of Cultural Exchange Project. We are a not-for profit company limited by guarantee, registed in Ghana under registration number G.16,744. Until 2010, we worked in collaboration with OCEP Netherlands Foundation (Stichting OCEP Nederland). Since January 2011, we manage our projects and placements 100% independently from Ghana. Although, having placed over 100 volunteers in the past 6 years, we now have advisors all over the world.

Our objective is to give you the opportunity to experience work and life in Ghana. Through volunteer placements in schools, orphanages, clinics and other projects, we hope to contribute to Ghana's development. By giving more people the chance to experience life in Ghana first-hand, we also hope to contribute to a better understanding of developing countries in general and Ghana in particular. Volunteering in Ghana is an experience that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Our philosophy is to make volunteering in Ghana easy for you. We select projects and help you get settled upon arrival in Accra. We connect you with our other volunteers, whether they are current or have volunteered in Ghana before.

Financially, we do not ask you to raise any funds for projects in Ghana before allowing you to participate. But we do believe in asking you to cover your own expenses. These include the expenses of our organisation in taking care of you, as well as the expenses of the host family that hosts you. We aim to keep these expenses at a reasonable level: we do not aim to make a profit.

Our projects are concentrated in Ghana's Central and Greater Accra Regions. Whether you plan to pursue teaching in Ghana, work in a Ghana orphanage, or work in a hospital in Ghana, we have projects in all these areas.

We are all Ghanaians. To get to know the people behind OCEP, have a look at our staff page.
